Remco Poortinga – van Wijnen Team Lead Security Technology SURF

Remco Poortinga – van Wijnen is Team Lead Security Technology at SURF, the collaborative organisation for IT in Dutch education and research. He and his team are responsible for providing technical services to SURF members that help them in improving their security posture, such as VPN, SOC/SIEM, issuing of certificates, mail filtering and others. Remco has been at SURF for more than 15 years. He has an MSc in Electrical Engineering (University of Twente, 1997).

Martijn Peijer Cybersecurity Expert Dutch Ministry of Finance

Martijn started using a computer when he was only 5 years old and created his first virus when he was only 9 years old. He has been working in cybersecurity for quite a few years now. Currently employed as Cybersecurity Expert at the Security Operations Center (SOC) of the Dutch Tax Office, Martijn is focusing on Threat Hunting, Ethical Hacking, OSINT and CTI. Martijn is also a part of several external collaborations and is a member of several external collaborative groups, such as the J-SOC and the Anti-DDoS Coalition and is also responsible for coordinating the creation of the plan of attack for the national DDoS test on behalf of the RED-Team each year. Filiz Yılmaz Director of Business Development Interconnection EMEA Equinix

Filiz Yılmaz is the Director of Business Development Interconnection EMEA at Equinix, leading the development of long-term interconnection strategies, eco-systems of interconnection and identifying investment and partnership opportunities and technology trends driving the evolution of digital infrastructure in the region.

Filiz has worked in the technology sector over two decades, beginning her career developing early internet services in her native Türkiye in late 90s, before moving to Amsterdam Netherlands. After holding senior roles at RIPE NCC, ICANN and Akamai Technologies, she took on consulting roles with a variety of Internet infrastructure providers and interconnection facilitators, including PeeringDB and Namex.

Throughout her career Filiz has been an active contributor to the Internet community. She has held numerous volunteer positions relating to Internet governance, policy and coordination, including the UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG), the ICANN Address Supporting Organization (ASO) Advisory Council (AC) and IANA Review Committee, the RIPE Programme Committee and the Türkiye Chapter of the Internet Society. Filiz is a regular Guest Colloquia lecturer in the System and Network Engineering Programme of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and is a former member of the programme’s Ethics Committee.

Frans ter Borg Founder Quanza

Frans ter Borg is the founder of Quanza, a delegated operator of mission-critical network infrastructures for societally relevant organisations. For over twenty years, Quanza has been a cornerstone of digital innovation within vital infrastructures in the Netherlands. Throughout his tenure at Quanza, Frans has held various key positions, and as CTO, he currently leads the company’s technological vision and strategy.

Frans is highly active in the IT community. He serves as the chair of the member council of NBIP. As chairman of the non-profit Cloud IT Academy (CITA), Frans oversees the provision of bachelor-level cloud engineering and security education in partnership with Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. Frans served on the boards of the Dutch Cloud Community, a prominent industry association, and held the position of treasurer for Digital Infrastructure Netherlands (DINL), a vital public affairs organization.

Bart van der Sloot Managing Director Leaseweb Networks

Bart van der Sloot is Managing Director of Leaseweb Network. Bart and his team builds, manages and supports Leaseweb’s networks and internet traffic around the world and the networking products and services in Leaseweb’s portfolio. Since December 2016, Bart was elected to the Executive Board of the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) where he fulfills the role of Chairperson. Bart holds a Masters Degree in Telecommunications from the Technical University Delft.

Marc Gauw Owner/Director MJGC
Marc has a background in several general and commercial management and board positions at KPN, AUCS, Carrier1, UPC, Neutral Internet Exchange (NL-ix), DINL and NLnet. Currently, he is a part-time consultant at MJGC.
Marc was a member of the AMS-IX board that founded the AMS-IX BV. During this period Marc oversaw pivotal moments in the organization’s history, like hiring the first CEO and the first CTO, plus his complete Ops-team, and renting the first AMS-IX office.
In those years, ‘groundbreaking’ services were introduced, like 1 Gb ports and IPv6, while the AMS-IX Operations were insourced from Surfnet to AMS-IX.
Moreover, new exchange services such as MDX and GRX were introduced, and EuroIX was founded with the help of AMS-IX.
Last but not least, two new POP’s were added: extension from SARA & Nikhef to Telecity-2, and to Global Switch.
Marc was a member of the AMS-IX Board from Sept 1999 till Sept 2003, the last 2 years as the Chairman.
Alex Bik CTO BIT

Alex has a background in electronics and computer hardware and started his journey into the online world in the early nineties. He ran a bulletin board system (BBS) for a couple of years when he became interested in a thing called the Internet. Having some experience in data communications, he helped set up a router for someone he knew from the BBS community. In 1997 he formally joined the company that is now known as BIT, where he still is the CTO. Meanwhile, Alex was on the board of AMS-IX for nine years and on the board of NBIP (the foundation mostly know for the collective DDoS mitigation and legal interception) for about 15 years.

Co-Founder of ON2IT (2006), Zero Trust Innovator since 2010, and creator of ON2IT’s AUXOtm, the platform to operationalize Zero Trust. Koning was among the pioneers introducing the Zero Trust strategy to the Dutch market, working alongside major industry players like John Kindervag, Palo Alto Networks, and VMware. His approach to IT security is characterized by creativity and a deep understanding of the intricacies of cybersecurity. Under his technical leadership, ON2IT has become a prominent player in cybersecurity, advocating for resilient and proactive defense mechanisms in an era of escalating cyber threats.

Christian Kaufmann Vice President of Technology Akamai

As Vice President of Technology, Christian Kaufmann leads the Technology department, which is responsible for driving the technical evolution of the Akamai Edge platform. This includes a wide range of responsibilities, such as hardware engineering, datacenter architecture, network architecture and engineering, and software and systems development. 
During his 15+ years on various boards in the Internet ecosystem, Christian has gained extensive board experience, including hiring CEOs and handling M&A. 
He serves as a board member for ICANN and the Tor Project. 
Before joining Akamai, Christian worked at several ISPs and Carriers like Telia Sonera, Easynet and Cable & Wireless in various technical and managerial roles. 
Christian has a Master of Science in Advanced Networking from The Open University in the UK and various technical certifications, including CCIE and JCNIE.

Herke Plantenga CEO NovoServe

After having access to 10 Mbit of internet in 1994 for a few years, Herke Plantenga (1974) Co-founded and owned a datacenter company (Virtu) which was sold to Equinix in 2008. After which he got to know the bare metal business through his role as managing director for Leaseweb in Germany. He founded NovoServe in 2015, which specialised in high performance bare metal services.

Steven has been with AMS-IX since 2001. In the two decades he has been with AMS-IX he has been active in various positions from NOC Engineer to Sysadmin and Software Engineer, and now Solutions Architect.

Luisa Garcia Montoya Product Manager, AMS-IX

Luisa holds AMS-IX dear to her heart. She closely followed its early developments with great interest while working at AT&T-Unisource and COLT. Upon joining in 2009, when Internet traffic over the platform peaked at around 1 Tbps, it had PoPs in only five data centres in Amsterdam.  In her roles as project and program manager and PMO, Luisa worked diligently towards establishing what is now AMS-IX: presence in 16 data centres in Amsterdam, reaching over 12 Tbps peak traffic, expansion to 18 cities across four continents, and achieving critical infrastructure status in The Netherlands. And now, as Product Manager, she is embarking on a mission to deliver Data Sharing Services in a way that only a neutral, non-profit, member-based organisation like AMS-IX can successfully achieve.

Rob Adams CEO Six Fingers

Rob Adams is interested in the how and where of innovation. He is always looking for new theories and ideas that arise and contribute to change in our world, society and lives.

He founded Six Fingers, a collective of strategy and innovation developers. He works with numerous multinationals and public organizations worldwide.

Rob is a columnist and author of five books on innovation. He is also a much sought-after international speaker on the future and innovation.

His new book, Return on Learning, was published in June 2023. It is based on his observations of working on complex future issues at companies and governments. Return on Learning (ROL) fosters the ability to think and act with a long-term perspective. It provides insight into the underlying factors, assumptions, and potential opportunities for innovation. ROL emphasizes achieving high learning curves in domains essential for the future. This method contrasts with Return on Investment (ROI), reinforcing short-term thinking and actions.

Besides Return on Learning, he wrote four other books. ‘Branchmarking’ and ‘Cheat’ are about trans sectoral innovation. ‘No Ego’ is about unknown people who changed the world. ‘Versus’ is about the difference between improving and renewing and how to deploy both of them in organizations.

Stavros Konstantaras Sr. Network Engineer AMS-IX

Stavros Konstantaras received a B.Sc. degree in information technology engineering from the Alexander Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki and an M.Sc. in system and network engineering from the University of Amsterdam. He is a Senior Network and Systems Engineer at Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX). Before joining AMS-IX, he worked as an Internet Research Engineer at NLNet Labs and a Researcher at the University of Amsterdam. He has extensive operational and research experience on Internet routing security by leading the AMS-IX efforts to implement the recommended current practices and to deploy security toolchains

Tim Vriend Continuous Improvement Specialist AMS-IX

Tim brings over two decades of invaluable experience to the forefront of the tech industry. For the past decade, he has been an integral part of AMS-IX, where he currently focusses on continuously improving the internal workings of AMS-IX with unwavering dedication and expertise.

Before his tenure at AMS-IX, Tim left his mark on renowned companies such as eBay, KPN, Nikon and Interxion, honing his skills and refining his craft. With over 20 years of hands-on experience in the field, Tim’s insights and leadership are assets and pillars upon which innovation and progress thrive.

Andreas Enotiadis CTO Cisco

Andreas Enotiadis is the CTO for global mobility sales at Cisco. In his 25 years there, he has built and supported a number of innovative solutions, especially in the service provider space, such as orchestration systems, early SD-WAN systems, SDN Controllers, and others. His current interests and work centre around encrypted IP flow analysis and management, unified wireless infrastructure, and large-scale IOT devices and protocols.

Andreas holds a PhD in Fluid Mechanics & Combustion from Imperial College. He lives in Athens, Greece, with his family, enjoying the country’s unique combination of mountains and sea.

Inge van der Beijl Director Innovation and Head of Expertise Northwave

Inge makes organizations more cyber resilient by making their people more resilient.

Her social and organizational psychology degrees and change management, combined with her solid experience at the TNO research institute, give her a strong scientific basis. Having served in the military in Afghanistan and being a lead communicator in ransomware incidents show her practical side.

Inge is the Director of Innovation and Head of Expertise at the international cybersecurity company Northwave.

Ikenna Azuike Moderator

Ikenna Azuike started his career as a lawyer but is now a sought-after journalist, presenter, speaker, and filmmaker. He was born in Lagos, Nigeria, grew up in the UK, studied law in the UK and France, and has lived in The Netherlands with his family since 2004.

After working as a lawyer with Shearman & Sterling in London, Singapore, and New York, as well as with Clifford Chance LLP in Amsterdam, he decided to change course and follow his passions for broadcasting and social activism. Together with his wife, Mette te Velde, he co-founded the Strawberry Earth Foundation to fast forward our transition towards a sustainable planet. He created the satirical news show What’s Up Africa. His show was subsequently commissioned by the BBC, aired on BBC World News television for 6 seasons, was shortlisted for an Association of International Broadcasters Award, and amassed over half a million followers on social media.

Since 2017, Ikenna has worked on a variety of longer-form journalistic projects through his own production company, Jollof Rice Productions B.V. For example, he made the six-part travel series ‘Planeet Nigeria’ (Planet Nigeria) for BNNVARA, the documentary ‘De Post-Racistische Planeet’ (The Post-Racist Planet) for VPRO Tegenlicht, and he is currently developing a comedy drama with Kaap Holland. In addition to his work as a journalist, Ikenna is also the chairman of The Correspondent Foundation, a foundation launched by the Dutch journalism platform De Correspondent.

Ron Augustus has been the Chief Innovation Officer (CINO) at SURF since September 2020. As CINO, he drives innovation in higher education and research in the Netherlands within SURF in collaboration with its members and other stakeholders. After studying Business Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam, Ron worked for 19 years in various positions at Oracle, then 9 years in the Senior Leadership Team of Microsoft Netherlands. In his last position as Customer Success Lead, he was responsible for the architecture and adoption of Microsoft Teams in the Netherlands. As CINO at SURF he combines his background in technological innovations with his passion for education and science.

Tessa Cramer Professor (lecturer) designing the future Fontys Academy

Tessa Cramer (PhD) is a sociologist and futurist. She is currently a lecturer in Designing the Future at Fontys University of Applied Sciences and chair of the knowledge centre Creative Economy. Tessa regularly gives presentations and workshops at corporations and government institutions.

Tessa’s motto is: Things can be done differently, and that takes courage. She is convinced that the complex issues of our time cannot be solved within existing systems and ways of thinking. But the reality is unruly. She understands that, like no other, it is a challenge every day to continue to view the world with a fresh eye.

Jan van Boesschoten Innovation Manager AMS-IX

Jan van Boesschoten, based in Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands, is currently a Innovation Manager at AMS-IX, bringing experience from previous roles at VodafoneZiggo. Jan van Boesschoten holds a 1986 – 1992 Master of Science (MSc) in History @ Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. With a robust skill set that includes Strategy, Sales, User Interface, Web Applications, Video and more, Jan van Boesschoten contributes valuable insights to the industry. Ruben van den Brink CTO AMS-IX

Ruben proudly joined AMS-IX in 2021. With an academic degree in mathematics, he started his business career in media broadcast IT. He held several management positions at Technicolor and Ericsson, focussing on network and datacenter services. In 2016, Ruben decided to join the SURFnet executive management team, leading the network department. At SURFnet, the Dutch national research and education network, he was responsible for the development and automated deployment of SURFnet8, as well the innovation programme for network services.
