Art de Blaauw has been Director of the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Central Government (CIO Rijk) since June 1, 2024. CIO Rijk falls under the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. After 25 years of experience in the private sector, Art is eager to contribute to the greater public interest. The Director of CIO Rijk is one of the driving forces behind the government’s digitalization policy. As Director of CIO Rijk, Art connects the ministries with other government agencies to jointly set the long-term vision. The challenge is to make the Dutch Government more agile and resilient in the field of IT. Important aspects here are, on the one hand, utilizing the (new) possibilities of digital technologies such as AI, and on the other, managing risks; whether regarding security, privacy, or other aspects. At CIO Rijk, we work towards a secure and sovereign government, both nationally and internationally. As European governments, we want to collaborate on concrete solutions for shared challenges. Therefore, Art has been closely involved in setting up the EDIC Digital Community Goods, for which he has been elected by the participating EU Member States as Chairman of the so-called Assembly of Members effective from its formal establishment in October 2025.
